Home » Join SPAN
SPAN is open to parent and carers of disabled children up to age 18 who live in Staffordshire. We also want to develop links with organisations who support children with disabilities.
If you think you would like to join SPAN there are a number of ways to do so:
- Volunteer to help at events, promotion and leaflet drops by becoming either a Parent Ambassador or Parent Champion.
Parent Ambassadors are parents who would like to promote SPAN by talking to parents at support group meetings or going along to organisations and talking at team meetings or other events. Parent Champions play a similar promotional role but without the talks! Parents who volunteer hand out leaflets and promotional materials to organisations and parent groups.
- Help to run the e-forum by becoming a Parent E-Forum Moderator.
Training provided – no experience necessary!
A professional from a service provider
We would like to encourage professionals to use the e-forum and involve us in decisions made around developing and reviewing services and procedures. Work we have been involved in has included parent friendly leafelts, consultations talks to professionals, inputting into strategic management groups, etc.
Attend meetings you have an interest in by becoming a SPAN Link Representative
Link representatives are parents and carers who would be happy to sit on groups or committees and feedback to SPAN Board Members but perhaps do not wish to commit to becoming a Parent and Carer Representative. Link Representatives may have an interest in a particular area such as health, early years, etc. or would like to join sub committees to the Board set up to discuss issues such as publicity and promotion, project work or website development.
Become a full Board member, as a SPAN Parent and Carer Representative.
SPAN Parent and Carer Representatives sit on the SPAN Board. Issues discussed at the Board include: consultations and feedback; training, publicity and promotion, roles and feedback from other meetings, agreement of Board policies and procedures, coordinating the work of other volunteers, as well as budget issues.
Interested? Then please contact us by email or telephone using the details on the contact page. We look forward to hearing from you!
